Wedding Attire

While looking online for a wedding photographer, we noticed that groups where everyone's attire is coordinated made for great wedding photos, especially with the bride and groom being the only ones in white. So we are hoping everyone will go along with the dress code of bright colors and tropical or floral prints.

For the guys: beige / khaki pants or shorts with bright Hawaiian shirts.

For the girls: bright Hawaiian or floral printed dresses, or bright Hawaiian tops with beige / khaki pants, shorts or skirts.

If you don't have anything in the closet already, don't worry; there are lots of shops there to buy Hawaiian print clothes.  http://www.poipubeach.org/activities/shopping.html

For shoes, wear what is comfortable...sandals or flip flops are great. But please, no sandals with socks - Dad, I'm talking to you!

Here are some examples I borrowed from some photographers websites:

Kim's First Post!

I thought I would add some pics of my friends and family that will be joining us in Kauai as well...

My parents, Allen and Linda, will be making the trip to Kauai along with my sister Natalie, and her two boys, Merrick (in the stroller) and Xander (still a twinkle in Alan's eye at the time of this photo). My brother in law, Alan, is still a maybe for joining us in Kauai at this point, depending on if he can get the time off from his medical student residency. My parents live in Lethbridge, AB, and this photo is from a nice fall day there during a stroll near the river. My sister lives in Calgary with her husband and two boys. I'm so glad they'll (hopefully all) be able to join us, and I found them a nice little condo a few minutes walk away from our vacation house.

Say hello to Pedram, Alaina, and Karen.  I first met Alaina in grade 10 (way back in 1990) in our hometown of Lethbridge, and through her I met her younger sister, Karen. Alaina and I were inseparable in high school, and it was with Alaina that I first moved out to Vancouver for the summer of '95. We rented a one room apartment and found summer jobs, and we had a blast. All good things must end however, and I went back to Lethbridge to go to college, and Alaina stayed here in Vancouver. That's when Karen and I started hanging out together, until she moved out to Vancouver too. I fell in love with Vancouver while working here for the summer, and with my friends living out here, it seemed like a good place to be, so I moved back in '96 and have been here ever since. About 10 of those years were spent in a little house on Blenheim street with Karen as my roommate, or 'wife' as we referred to each other after being roommates for so long. But, along came Dusit in '06 to sweep me off my feet, so Karen is now my ex-wife. I guess our marriage ended when I moved in with Dusit in '09, but officially when Karen and Pedram got married in May of 2011 : )

BTW - Alaina is joining us on the Kalalau trail during the first part of the Kauai trip too!!

Nubs

This wedding wouldn't have happened without the assist of this little hobo. "Nubby" was scratching at Kim and Karen's door back when they were roommates living at a house on Blenheim Street 6 years ago. When they gave her up for adoption, word passed on to Brenda, then to me.

Named for her stubby 3-inch tail, which remains today still a---*burp*---mystery, Nubby has been with us all these years, slowly incurring food and litter costs as well as shedding and shredding up the place. Her favorite toy is the laser dot at the end of a bee-shaped pointer. The dot's size is about Nubby's threshold for "big enough not to hide from" and to date she's never figured out it's not actually alive.

A bit about our destination.

Kauai is a small Hawaii island with many different natural features; check out these pics
If you see a beach you like, let us know. We might be convinced. So far, this one's my favorite. The red sand reminds me of Tatooine where I grew up on a moisture farm.

The plan on arrival is to get up to the north side of the island and hike the 22-mile Kalalau Trail, camping along the way.

Here's a good account from someone else's trip

If we're still alive and amicable to each other by the end of the 4-day trip, we will meet up with friends and family.

We've rented a luxurious vacation home called Hale Aloha. More pictures here

Aloha!

Aloha, everyone!

What you see here is a Good Ol' Blog to track our progress planning a modest yet exciting wedding + honeymoon, set on beautiful Kauai, with a handful of family and friends.

As it happens this is my first ever blog post, my first ever blog, and my first ever wedding!

This is Kim.

This is me!
